Team competitions in maths

The University of Graz featured me and Hartwig on Instagramfeatured me and Hartwig on Instagram due to the numerous team competitions we organize in addition to the established Kangaroo competition and the Mathematics Olympiad in Austria at KFU. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the helping hands who assisted with the organization over the past year, and of course, the initiators who started or brought these competitions to Austria. Special mention goes to Michaela Kraker and Heidi Bergold in Styria, and for all of Austria, the team from Linz, who established the Naboj competition in Austria, as well as Professor Michael Eichmair’s team (including his colleagues Robin and Karinna), through whom many competitions have been organized across the country. A special thanks to Robin Gludovatz, whom I can always ask for advice.

I believe Graz is currently well-positioned with four team competitions for different age groups, and who knows, maybe there will be a few more by 2025. My student Stefan is currently researching the reasons for the popularity of math competitions in his master’s thesis, which will hopefully be published in 2024.
